Game 4 - April 17 | ||

I think Coach H will be making a big mistake putting Eric in goal for this game. The Lincoln players will get into Eric's head so fast - which will end up
making it hard for our team to do anything. Clay played an AWESOME game on Tuesday night and he earned the right to keep playing as far as I'm concerned.
Stampede can't afford to get any goals behind and have coach pull Eric and put Clay in. Clay needs to START. Not sure whats going on with the team but its
obvious there is some "team" troubles. Don't understand what Kesti could have done that was so bad as to not play for the last couple months
either. The team needs to come out with intensity and play that way the entire game to move on. Lets hope that Coach rethinks his strategy and starts Clay,
otherwise, things probably won't turn out so good.

Game 4 is Lincoln's to lose. Our only chance is if the Stampede show up to play 60 minutes of hockey, maybe an additional 15 after that, and a loud,
hostile, hometown crowd.
Go Stampede.

Playoff hockey = desperate hockey. Learned that when I first fell in love with this game watching the North
Stars in the 80's. Lincoln isn't gonna let up because they don't want to have to face us in a Game 5 no matter where it's played. Our backs
are against the wall and we want to play tomorrow. The recipe for a great game ...
When we're on our game, we're very good. We need to set the tone early, take it to these guys just like two weeks ago and last Saturday, AND score first. Keep up the intensity for the full 60-minutes! I believe good things are going to happen. Penalty Killa wrote:PK: to be honest, I was almost afraid to read on when I saw your "note". I'm glad I kept reading. Very well said. This is an elimination game. Time to put aside all of the personal feelings. We need to support and cheer for all 23 players and the coaches tonight from the time they hit the ice for warmups til the clock reads :00.0. That's my plan ... who's with me? LET'S GO STAMPEDE!!!

Not the ending we wanted, but it was the ending they earned.
Lets look forward to tryouts and next season! I will take away from this season one of the top ten sports moments I've ever witnessed: ED-DEE! ED-DEE! ED-DEE! ....Yeah....., that alone was worth the price of my season tickets. Once again Kesti and Thompson sitting it out, could they have done something about Vermeersch? We'll never know. I didn't know we were so deep in talent that we could let some go to waste, game after game.

Thompson is ranked #76 on the NHL scouting list. He's big & good enough to be noticed by them and Kesti has size & skill which we needed. Oh,
Well.
I don't think anyone can say our team did not PLAY HARD. I was very proud of them and with a skilled goalie the score would have been much different and maybe even a different outcome. Oh, Well. One thing Coach Hartzell was sure correct about was saying, "Goalies wins cups." Oh, Well.

So, interviewing the coach after the game & he's still trying to blow sunshine up everyones asses.
Defense will be a strong point next year because there's so much experience coming back...who says they want to be back? I applaud Grover for skating off the ice instead of going through the line, I know several will persecute him for it for being a bad sportsman, but I'm fine with it. The kid gave his heart to this team this year & it turned out like crap. He became one of my favorite players this year through his hard play & giving everything he had to give. Hopefully next year there won't be over half the team made of jumbo marshmallows, although with no incentive to get a hard nosed battling team like SC, Omaha & Lincoln seem to have almost every year, I don't see it happening. At least with those teams when they're getting their a$$es kicked on the scoreboard they'll make a statement late in the game and put the foil to someone. But since the only other alternative to see hockey at this level is to make a 2 hour round trip 30 times a year I guess they've really got us bent over the barrel. |

I'm actually looking forward to the next season more than I ordinarily would have. The weaknesses of this year's team in terms of personnel should be
strengths in 09-10. Potentially 5 of 7 defensemen and a solid goaltender in Witt (I know, that's what we thought about Hartzell for 08-09 right?) on top of
a nice core of 3rd year forwards. If they bring back Walters, Farris, Divjak, Homstrom, Rohrkemper and Michalke along with some good young drafted/futures
talent, next year's team should be competitive, similar to the makeup of the Ice this season, with plenty of players with USHL/NCAA experience who know how
much effort is required every night over the course of a season. Maybe we'll get lucky and St. Cloud will ask Eddy to play another year of USHL.
I hope they have the live draft on the USHL site again this year. Have a great offseason. |
